hand painted walls

Hand painted wallpaper is one of the most special ways to decorate a home.  We do not get to use hand painted wallpaper in our client’s homes very often, but when we do it’s very exciting and always turns out absolutely gorgeous.  I love the look, but it is usually a little too formal for my taste… But it doesn’t always have to be formal.  You will see in these pictures that some of these rooms maintain a casual, relaxed look despite the expensive/unique wall treatments.

Absolutely love this hand painted fish wallpaper.  Talk about casual!  Such a unique take on hand painted wallpaper.  It would be so pretty in a lake house.

Big Bold Stripes

This post is dedicated to my best friend Michelle, who loves big bold stripes – especially in black and white.  But who doesn’t love the look of stripes?  The bigger the better, in my opinion.  And the black and white might be my favorite too.  I will never get tired of stripes.  They’re just so classic.

Antique Mirror Again

I think I’ve already done a post about my love for antique mirror.  But I found some more pretty pictures to share with you.  Also, I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of this Foxed mirror cocktail table to arrive from West Elm:

West Elm foxed mirror coffee table

West Elm foxed mirror coffee table2

They told me that it would arrive at the end of February.  And then I got an email from West Elm saying the backorder was pushed back until the end of April.  I’m starting to wonder if I’ll ever get it :(  I have not had a coffee table in my apartment.  Ever. I’ve only lived in it for 8.5 months).  I have been focusing on trying to be smart and waiting for the right piece.  And I thought I found it.  So please, West Elm, send me my table!

Needless to say it is no longer available even for backorder (what a shame!).  I placed the order in February when it was on sale.  However, the Foxed mirror side table is still available and just as pretty!

Map is Hung!

So, I finally hung my “vintage” Chattanooga map!  It only took over 3 months to decide where to hang it… I think I’m getting better at making decisions quickly ;)

photo 4

I also hung another piece of art that I got for Christmas.  It is the cutest print of a bee done by Chattanooga artist Liz Nichols.  Her art is amazing – you must check it out! Her website doesn’t display much of it, but you can check out her pinterest board (I want everything).  AND it is available through Sophie’s in Chattanooga.  Sophie’s is probably my favorite store in Chattanooga… I could go on forever about what a cute shop it is, but that deserves a post of it’s own :) … What do you think?

Marvelous Maps!

I bought the best “vintage” map from Etsy a couple of months ago (sadly, I think the map that I ordered is no longer available, but there is a smaller/similar one here).  I love it but of course I cannot make a decision about WHERE to hang it.  Naturally, the map is of my favorite city and hometown:  Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Therefore, I want to hang it somewhere prominent.  The problem is that there are only so few prominent wall spaces in my tiny apartment.  So I might have to do some rearranging… I will be sure to let you know when I do find the right place (and post pictures, of course), but for now take a look at these chic maps… Have a great weekend!

Cheap Art Alert!

I was wasting time on Pinterest, looking at different blogs the other day when I discovered an amazing post from the blog Style by Emily Henderson.  The post was called Top 5 Most Affordable Online Art Sources.  I started clicking around and discovered so many bargains from the resources.  I couldn’t just keep that information all to myself — I had to share these great resources with YOU.  Here are some pieces that I found:

That is a framed and matted 1900 map of Paris from 20 x 200.  Framed and matted for $200?  You can’t find that just anywhere.  Oh and if you just want the map it’s $60.  What a bargain!

I was very tempted to purchase the above framed photograph as a Christmas or birthday present for one of my Alabama fan family members.  Also, know that there are different frame options: black, white, natural, with or without a matte (I’ll take the matted white for my apartment, thanks).  [Animal Locomation] Also from 20 x 200.

These Embroidery Flowers by Emily Renouf would look so cute in a kitchen, bathroom, or children’s room.  At $25, how could you not buy?  [from Little Paper Planes]

Kristofer Mills Print 3

Kristofer Mills Print 2.  The above two prints remind me of the abstract black and white drawings that I’m working on for my own apartment.  In a gallery wall together they would look so great and add just the right modern/abstract touch to a traditional interior.  For $65 and $35 repectively, all they need is a simple Hobby Lobby white frame and they’re ready to hang!

Moving on to Mammoth & Company, we have Taryn Coulsons’ Cobalt Teal I acrylic painting.  The price is $350 for a 16 x 20 because this is an original painting.  How pretty are those blues?  Once again, an abstract piece like this would add just the right modern touch to a traditional space.  It is also available as an 8 x 10 print for $20!!!

I love the horse photographs by Troy Moth.  This is just one of the many available on Mammoth & Company’s website.  See more here and here.  Love the horses and I’m not even a “horse person”.

HOW cute is the giraffe above?  Seriously this doesn’t even have to go in a kid’s room – it’s a great conversation piece for just $18!  From Society 6.

History Lesson by Emily Rickard.  You can get it on a stretched canvas for $85 – no frame required!

Oh Deer by The Lepolas from The Calm Gallery.  15.5 x 21.5 for $28.63.

And of course, Society 6 has my favorite poster, Keep Calm and Carry On, in a variety of colors ($28.63 each).  I love the grey one above because it’s so calm.

That’s all I have for now, but take a look yourself and see what you find :)

ROLL TIDE!!!!!

Botanicals

Botanicals are an inexpensive, easy way to add artwork to a room.  They add a little greenery too.  And they’re almost always on sale at One Kings Lane and Etsy

Suzanne Kasler designed some framed botanical prints for Ballard Design.  I love the sepia tone.

Wisteria has a variety of framed botanicals and other prints.  I love the framed butterfly prints and other insects.

I think my favorite are the simple green Perennial ferns from Wisteria.  We all know I love a little green :)

For some reason my gmail is acting funny today and I can’t source the images perfectly but I did my best.

All unknown pictures are from Pinterest.

Black and White Abstract

I’ve been working on some artwork for my apartment lately.  I’ve been drawn to black and white abstract pieces for a long time.  I took several art classes in high school and in college.  Instead of buying something or finding a poster, I figured why not put my skills to the test?   How hard can it be?  We’ll see…

Lacquered Look

I love the look of lacquered walls.  Miles Redd is especially fond of the lacquered look.  Lacquering can be very expensive.  High gloss paint can sometimes be just as effective.

Lacquered walls might be a little too glam for my taste, but I love it in other people’s homes!  Take a look…
