London: The Knightsbridge Hotel

I’m still alive.  Between moving and starting my awesome new job in Chattanooga (in case you missed it), I have been a crazy person lately.  I have so much to share about London.  And so much to share about my new job!  I’ve decided to share in chronological order:  London first…  Also, London comes first because I started writing this post over a week ago and I need to finish it.

I’ve decided that since there are so many pictures from London I am going to break it down into categories.  The hotel we stayed at in London, The Knightsbridge Hotel, deserves a post all on its own.  My cousins and I found it online and thought it looked nice/cute.  It turned out to far exceed my expectations – it was the cutest boutique hotel I’ve ever been inside!  AND would you believe that it is owned and decorated by an interior designer?  Yes, talented Kit Kemp designed every inch of it.  It is so chic I don’t know how to describe it except to say it’s all in the details.  She certainly has a unique style.  I’ll let these pictures speak for themselves.

Picture me walking around the hotel’s public rooms taking these pictures.  I’m sure the employees thought I was strange.  I also bought Kit’s book in the hotel, which features pictures of the Knightsbridge Hotel.

The Scottie dogs behind us are made out of cardboard or something… There was so much neat and creative artwork all throughout the hotel.

Clearly, I was obsessed with these chairs.

One of the three hotel rooms I got to see.  The walls of this room were covered in a gray linen.  The sofa was upholstered in felt, along with the bedskirt and other pieces in the room.  I think Kit Kemp likes felt.

I just want to point out that this post was entirely voluntary and nobody at Firmdale Hotels is paying me to write this.  I just thought our hotel was exceptionally chic!  Although I would be more than happy to have them as a sponsor ;)

Royal Residences… and some exciting news!

You might say this post is a little late, but there is a reason why I’m just now dedicating a post to the Royal Baby…

In exactly two weeks I will be landing in London for a ten day visit!  I am so thrilled I can hardly focus on anything else.  A while ago, my sister decided she was going to study abroad in Europe for a semester.  Obviously, I was extremely jealous and determined to figure out a way to visit her.  I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t take the opportunity to make another trip to Europe.  [Ever since I went to Paris and Italy four years ago, I’ve been dying to go back.]  So after saving my money and recruiting a couple enthusiastic family members, I chose to visit my sister around the time of her 21st birthday, which is when she will be near London.  Aren’t I the best big sister ever?  Tell her that because sometimes she doesn’t think so… :)

So far we have plans to visit all of the following “Royal Residences”.  I can’t believe I’ll be seeing these beautiful castles in person in just two weeks.  To say that I’m excited is an understatement!

If any of you have any advice/recommendations I would love to hear it!!!!

Headed to the beach!

I’m headed to the beach today and I couldn’t be more excited!  I have only put a bathing suit on one time this year (for about an hour).  So I could really use a tan.  Crossing my fingers that the weather cooperates.  I will be spending the week with 30 of my closest relatives.  You might remember what happened last year :)  I’m looking forward to relaxing with the family and hopefully soaking up some sunshine!

Raise the Roof: Part One

What do y’all think of these two part posts that I’ve been doing lately?  It definitely makes it easier for me to talk about two different categories of one subject (last week it was the skirt).

Ever since I took a trip to Paris (almost four years ago) I have loved/appreciated French architecture and furniture more than any other style.  A trademark of French architecture is the mansard roof.  I love it.  What do y’all think?  When I build my dream house (any day now) I will definitely consider a mansard roof to make me feel like I’m in pretty Paris all the time :)

Weekend getaway

I’ve been looking forward to spending the weekend here with friends… And it’s finally here. I can’t wait to relax, watch football, go swimming, grill out, and have some cocktails. And the weather is going to be PERFECT! The last picture is my favorite :)

First pedicure in 88 years!

My 88 year old great aunt got her first pedicure at the beach this week. It was an exciting and entertaining event! I think she liked the massage chair better than the pedicure… Here’s how it went:

Getting in the chair…

“What do all these buttons do? I didn’t know I was getting a massage too!”

Beach Bound

Countdown to spending a whole week at the beach: 4 days!!!  And I cannot wait.  I used to think that living far away from the beach was a good thing because it made beach vacations more special.  Not anymore.  Now I’m convinced I would be perfectly fine living near the beach.  I would never take it for granted.  Maybe one day I’ll make this dream a reality.

Of course I would have these Graham & Green chairs in my breakfast room:

Or else I would have some bistro chairs like the ones in this dining area designed by Ashley Whitaker:

I love the pendants in the kitchen below…

But we all know I can’t resist my beloved Hicks pendants:

I would put these adorable Vineyard Striped Rugs from Ballard Designs in the hallways on hardwood floors…

A beach house isn’t complete without an outdoor shower.  How awesome is this one?

I love this driftwood lamp for a beach house — not sure where its from though.

Orkney chairs are very beachy in my opinion, of course my dream beach house has at least one…

I would probably go with this AMAZING Lotus wallpaper by Galbraith & Paul in one of the bathrooms… Seriously, this wallpaper is like my new favorite thing EVER.

Another outdoor shower inspiration (I think I like the other one better though).  Via Lonny

Here is Meg Ryan at her beach house:
