Greek Key, take 2

I know I’ve already dedicated an entire post to the Greek Key, but it’s a classic symbol that can be incorporated into your life in sooooo many ways.  Therefore, expect more greek key posts in the future.  My last greek key post was over a year ago, anyway.  I’m trying to think of where I have the greek key symbol in my apartment… I don’t think I do.  I guess I’m a hypocrite!?

Cornice Boards

After looking at all the chicness that is in The Big Book of Chic, I decided cornice boards are the most fabulous way to dress a window.  It took me a little longer than I expected to look at every single page of the book – but that’s why Miles named it The BIG Book of Chic instead of The Little Book of Chic.

I think a cornice board is a little too formal for my apartment right now, but maybe one day one of my many houses will feature some over the top cornice boards ;)

Miles Redd knows how to design fabulous cornice boards.  And I found evidence that other designers do too.  I can’t think of a more fabulous way to dress a window, can you?

By the way, the pictures now link the their sources.  I’m so high tech :)

Absolutely love all the green!!!

Some cornices don’t serve a purpose – they’re like jewelry for a window :)

So sweet for a little girls room

Love the contrast of the printed fabric and the solid Ivory fabric and tape trim…

I know you’ve probably seen this picture a thousand times before, but it needed to be in my “Cornice Boards” post [Elizabeth Dinkel via Veranda]

Miles Redd… of course. And yes, that is a closet.

Simple, white, shaped cornice boards. You almost don’t even notice them. The first thing I noticed was that cool light fixture. And the black & white abstract art over the mantle.

Unique shape.

And speaking of unique shapes! LOVE this eye candy. Miles Redd.

Nifty Nailheads

Nailheads are like jewelry for furniture.  They come in all different shapes, sizes, and finishes…

source

A few furniture pieces that utilize nailheads…

Arteriors‘ Tennyson bench

The Marcello barstool from Ballard Design is one of Mallory Mathison Inc.‘s favorite barstools.  The upholstered arms make it feel like a comfortable club chair.  And those large nailheads on the side of the arms add the perfect finishing touch. And it’s on sale right now!

Bungalow 5’s Marco side table would look great in the right setting.  Like a kid’s room or playroom.  Also available in black.

If you reallyyy love nailheads, you’ll probably like Bernhardt’s Cabrillo Nailhead Chest… A little too funky for me though.

I would like Noir’s Bacalle ottoman a lot more if it wasn’t so dark.

Nailheads should be essential on a simple, solid headboard.  Wisteria doubled the bling with two rows of nailheads on their Queen Anne headboard.

And now for some pinterest pictures that display good use of nailheads…

I absolutely love the Greek Key design of the nailheads on this banquette in Traditional Home.

[Nathan Schroder] LOVE the upholstered drawer fronts outlined with nailheads on these nightstands.  Although I’m a little distracted by that fabulous green lamp!

Notice the alternating large and small nailheads on this leather stool.  And they are spaced out.  The possibilities are endless.  Gina Berschneider red leather ottoman via One Kings Lane.

I just love a scalloped edge… on just about anything.

Greek Key

The Greek key is probably my favorite motif used in decorating.  Dictionary.com defines the greek key as “an ornamental pattern consisting of repeated vertical and horizontal lines (often in relief)”.  I would define it as one of the most popular ornaments used in interior design in ANY form your heart desires.  Here are some pictures that show all the different ways to incorporate the greek key into decorating a home…

And now for some furniture and accessories that YOU can have in your home to bring in the greek key motif…

Grecian jute pillows from Wisteria

Visual Comfort’s Abbot sconce designed by Alexa Hampton.  Available through Circa Lighting.

Cyan Design’s Bamboo Gold mirror available at WalMart for $482.

Jonathan Adler’s Greek key dinnerware available at Neiman Marcus.

William Sonoma‘s Greek key bedding.  On sale now for a steal!!

We recently ordered a pair of these nightstands through World’s Away for a little girls room.

Add some character to your pillows or curtains with one of these greek key tape trim from MJ Trimmings.  Available in about a dozen different colors for just $7.98/yard!

I love this gold Athena table from Interior HomeScapes.  Would be perfect as a small cocktail table.

Linen throw pillow from Shades of Light.

LOVE this headboard.  Nailheads in the shape of Greek keys.  Octavia headboard from Serena and Lily.

Matouk’s Arcadia throw blankets.  They’re so soft!

Trina Turk designed this greek key rug available through Layla Grace for just $160 for a 3 x 5.  Also available in Blue and Pink.

Visual Comfort’s Kate table lamp designed by Alexa Hampton.  Available at Circa Lighting.

So many ways to incorporate the classic Greek key!

Have a great weekend!
