Campaign for a Campaign

Campaign chests seem to be having a moment right now.  Is it just me?   I absolutely love the look.  Stained or painted, the campaign style would work with any design.   And the Brass hardware takes it to the next level of chic!  Check out all the colors I found:

Spool chair, please!

summerfield - Phoebe Howard

If you know me really well, you know that I have always wanted a spool chair… or at least I’ve wanted one since I knew what a spool chair is…  There’s something so classic/American about it. Is it just me?

If I had the choice I would have one (or two?) of Hickory Chair’s spool chairs sitting in my living room right now. It [they] would be upholstered in the extremely expensive fabric of my choice, of course.

If I couldn’t have my first choice, I would settle for Noir’s version of the spool chair.

What do yall think?  Maybe these pictures will help…

Antique Mirror Again

I think I’ve already done a post about my love for antique mirror.  But I found some more pretty pictures to share with you.  Also, I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of this Foxed mirror cocktail table to arrive from West Elm:

West Elm foxed mirror coffee table

West Elm foxed mirror coffee table2

They told me that it would arrive at the end of February.  And then I got an email from West Elm saying the backorder was pushed back until the end of April.  I’m starting to wonder if I’ll ever get it :(  I have not had a coffee table in my apartment.  Ever. I’ve only lived in it for 8.5 months).  I have been focusing on trying to be smart and waiting for the right piece.  And I thought I found it.  So please, West Elm, send me my table!

Needless to say it is no longer available even for backorder (what a shame!).  I placed the order in February when it was on sale.  However, the Foxed mirror side table is still available and just as pretty!

Hot for Hooves

I’ve always wanted one of these benches from NOIR.

Summerfield Design - NOIR claw leg saddle stool

What do y’all think?  I would upholster it in something way less dark and dirty looking of course.  Anyway, this little bench (or “stool”) got me noticing a lot of other hooves going on in the decorating world.  I think I might need some hooves.

Barcelona Chair

When I was in college I took a lighting class.  One of our biggest projects was to design and build a lamp.  The lamp design had to be inspired by something else – a piece of furniture, an animal, an object, whatever, I can’t remember… Anyway, I chose to base my lamp design off of the Barcelona Chair.  The Barcelona Chair is probably one of the most famous chairs ever designed.  It was designed by Mies van der Rohe for Knoll 85 years ago.   I wish I still had a picture of the lamp.  It was probably the most frustrating project I ever had in college. My poor mom helped me with it (thanks, Mom!). I wish I had a picture of it.  Actually I’m glad that I don’t because it wasn’t my best work and it would just frustrate me to look at because I nearly pulled my hair out trying to put it together.

I would love to own a Barcelona chair one day, if I ever have $5000 to spare.  A vintage one would be even more amazing.  The value of the chair will only increase with time.  Barcelona chairs are kind of like tulip tables because they are classic contemporary pieces that can be incorporated into traditional or modern spaces.  I’m not crazy about any of these pictures but you get the idea…

I also love the ottomans… How chic do this pair look in this closet?  What a perfect place to sit and put your shoes on.

Tulip Table

If I had a dining room, I would have a dining room table.  If I had all the money in the world, I would have a Saarinen table.  That is two big IFs.  Eero Saarinen was a famous furniture designer for Knoll, where the table became available in 1956.  And he was obviously a genius because these tables are recognized and wanted by almost everyone today.  You can literally put one in the most traditional space or the most contemporary space and it will look fantastic.

Unfortunately, the dining table costs about $7,000 (and that’s just for the 78″ oval), which is why I need all the money in the world to not feel guilty about buying one (and I can’t afford it).  And let’s face it, if I have all the money in the world, I would probably have a pretty big dining room, so I’m going to need the 96″ oval :)

[Luckily, IKEA makes a small knock off of the tulip table for $199!]

Headboard Heaven

People are getting really creative with their upholstered headboard shapes!  John Robshaw‘s headboard designs definitely take the cake (I already dedicated a post to them), but I’ve seem some other fabulous shapes and styles in the interior design world lately.

I was inspired to write this post after seeing Robshaw’s apartment in the latest Elle Decor.  Unfortunately the pictures/article are not online.  In the article, Robshaw’s bed is a four poster metal frame with an upholstered headboard that is a variation of his Bihar headboard design.

And now for some other favorite headboard designs…

Tortoise Shell

I absolutely love a tortoise shell finish… on just about anything! Sunglasses, picture frames, furniture, you name it. It’s so classic. It will never go out of style or get old. The first thing I think of when I think of a tortoise shell finish is probably these:

Ray-Ban’s Wayfarar in Tortoise… BUT a tortoise shell finish looks fabulous on just about anything. Especially furniture and home accessories.

That table! Interior design by Miles Redd.

How gorgeous is this tortoise shell mirror? I wish I knew where it was from :(

If only I could afford Jimmy Choo’s Tortoise wedges (available at Nordstrom)… sigh.

Would love to have one of these gorgeous decorative boxes from Karen Robertson for my coffee table… whenever I get a coffee table ;)

Karen Robertson has other beautiful tortoise shell objects too!

And then she also has actual turtle shells! I’d love to hang a grouping on a wall somewhere in my apartment.

There’s even a green one!!! I’d love to hang this guy on the wall.

I might settle for this tortoise shell iphone case from JCrew until I can afford the real thing.

I’m obsessed with most furniture from Oly Studio, but I’m especially obsessed with their dark shell finish… Like on the Jeremy side table.

Tory Burch is also a big fan of tortoise shell. There are all kinds of tortoise shell jewelry, handbags, belts, on the website. [shown: Octagon Resin Necklace]

Jackie O would love these Warby Parker sunglasses.

I even found tortoise shell napkins on Pinterest! Available from Horchow.

Bamboo

source

I love anything bamboo.  Bamboo blinds, bamboo furniture, bamboo floors, bamboo plants… You get the picture.  The options are endless.

Reasons why everyone should love bamboo:

1.  It is considered to be more environmentally friendly than other wood species.

2. Bamboo grows extremely fast.  If you have a little bamboo forest in your back yard, you better keep an eye on it because it can take over!  I guess that can be good or bad…

3.  Animals eat bamboo (pandas, gorillas, elephants, etc.)

4.  As I stated earlier, bamboo can be used in so many different ways:  construction, textiles, fishing rods, and FURNITURE!  I love bamboo furniture because it gives it sort of a chinoiserie look that other woods just can’t achieve.

A lot of furniture that is made out of other types of wood is even carved or painted to look like bamboo.

Here are some pictures I’ve acquired of unique uses for bamboo:

bamboo moulding!

Somerset Bay’s Folly Beach Cabinet… Would make a great bar :)

bamboo laundry hampers from One Kings Lane

Shades of Light’s Bamboo Tower Chandelier.  Especially love it with those grasscloth shades!

bamboo back drop [Bou Bou Bisou]

Absolutely adore this bamboo carved bed (obviously this is an example of wood carved to look like bamboo).  This bed is timeless!  [Cote de Texas]

A cute little bamboo occasional table I saw at Dearing Antiques here in Atlanta. [Instagramed by me]

It looks just like this one I saw on One Kings Lane

faux bamboo painted occasional table from Joseph Konrad (here in Atlanta)

Why is this picture turned sideways?  No idea.

This gorgeous bamboo coat rack/umbrella stand is also from Joseph Konrad.  Once again, turned sideways (if anyone knows why my pictures are doing this or how I can fix it, please advise!).

One of my favorite living rooms of all time – Mark Sikes’ home.  Love the bamboo club chairs.  [Habitually Chic]

This vignette from Sanity Fair has lots of (faux) bamboo:  chair, desk, picture frames, mirror…

Bungalow 5’s Chloe Mirror is definitely a favorite here at Mallory Mathison Inc.  We’ve used it in several clients’ bathrooms and bedrooms.

But we also love their Claire Mirror.

Arteriors’ bamboo and glass side table

Somerset Bay’s Summerland Key Bed. Gorgeous, right?

How adorable is Somerset Bay’s Indian Bay Chest?  Not exactly bamboo, but it is painted to look that way.  We did a similar Somerset Bay chest in the same blue and white finishes for a little boys room… I might have to do a post on his room.  Cutest little boys room EVER.

That is all the bamboo I have for today!
