metal dining chairs

I love the industrial feel of these metal  tolix dining chairs.  If I had a bar I would definitely purchase a few of these to use as barstools…

Spool chair, please!

summerfield - Phoebe Howard

If you know me really well, you know that I have always wanted a spool chair… or at least I’ve wanted one since I knew what a spool chair is…  There’s something so classic/American about it. Is it just me?

If I had the choice I would have one (or two?) of Hickory Chair’s spool chairs sitting in my living room right now. It [they] would be upholstered in the extremely expensive fabric of my choice, of course.

If I couldn’t have my first choice, I would settle for Noir’s version of the spool chair.

What do yall think?  Maybe these pictures will help…

New Runner and Good As New Chair

I finally got a runner for the long hallway in my apartment. I’m sure the people who live in the unit below me are grateful. What do y’all think? Black & white + Chevron = Love it! I got it from one of our vendors, but West Elm and Urban Outfitters have similar options.

I also wanted to share the miraculous restoration of a very broken chair. One of my brother’s friends leaned back in one of the dining chairs at my parents cabin and this happened:

But I took it to the Touch Up Guy here in Atlanta and he literally made it good as new! You can’t even tell it was ever broken. Impressive, isn’t it? He even put steel rods in it. Pretty much good as new:

Barcelona Chair

When I was in college I took a lighting class.  One of our biggest projects was to design and build a lamp.  The lamp design had to be inspired by something else – a piece of furniture, an animal, an object, whatever, I can’t remember… Anyway, I chose to base my lamp design off of the Barcelona Chair.  The Barcelona Chair is probably one of the most famous chairs ever designed.  It was designed by Mies van der Rohe for Knoll 85 years ago.   I wish I still had a picture of the lamp.  It was probably the most frustrating project I ever had in college. My poor mom helped me with it (thanks, Mom!). I wish I had a picture of it.  Actually I’m glad that I don’t because it wasn’t my best work and it would just frustrate me to look at because I nearly pulled my hair out trying to put it together.

I would love to own a Barcelona chair one day, if I ever have $5000 to spare.  A vintage one would be even more amazing.  The value of the chair will only increase with time.  Barcelona chairs are kind of like tulip tables because they are classic contemporary pieces that can be incorporated into traditional or modern spaces.  I’m not crazy about any of these pictures but you get the idea…

I also love the ottomans… How chic do this pair look in this closet?  What a perfect place to sit and put your shoes on.

Chair Crush

HOW cute is this Scallop Slipper Chair from Oomph?  I saw it in House Beautiful last month (or was it a few months ago?) and gasped a little.

I really don’t know why they would put it in this boring beige linen fabric on the website.  It looks so much more appealing and fun in a cute colorful fabric like it was featured in House Beautiful.  So I went on the hunt for more pictures of my chair crush… and it turns out a picture is very difficult to find!  But I did find a scan of the House Beautiful feature:

Most of you already know all about my love for a scallop edge.  Add a scallop edge to an adorable slipper chair and I am head over heels.  Now if only I had $1500 laying around.

Chair Crush

I’ve always loved the Orkney Chair.  What’s not to love about a wood framed wing chair with a tall back made of natural fibers?  It can add a chic new dimension/feel to an otherwise boring room.

When I was preparing to write this post I googled “Orkney chair” (duh) and came to a website that informed me of the origin of the chair.  I never knew there was a special history behind the chair (silly me!).  Anyways, the Orkneys are a group of islands north of Scotland.  They’re located just south of the Shetlands.  Apparently trees don’t grow in the Orkneys because of the North Sea winds, which is why the people weave the backs of the chairs out of straw.  The wooden base of the chairs are made mostly from timbers that washed up on the shores from old shipwrecks, etc.  The tall back was supposed to protect Orcadians from the strong winds.  This popular chair design has been made for about 100 years!

It even comes in a bench and a rocking chair!!! :)

How cute is the mini one?
