Weekend Pretties

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.  I live for the weekends :)

Here are some chic pictures that have nothing to do with one another, but I had to share…

I’ve told y’all before that I love twin beds.  Symmetry always catches my eye so a twin bedroom is the best opportunity to have lots and lots of symmetry.  What about THREE twin beds?  Love it three times as much… Not to mention how precious is this bedroom designed by Cathy Kincaid… i.e. bedspreads, beams, benches – did not even mean to use alliteration there :)

So many chic things going on in this picture below… Peacock blue door with Brass nailheads… Grasscloth on the walls… Is that a light blue painted ceiling?  I wish we could see what was beyond that door:  a chevron rug and hand painted wallpaper perhaps?

Sometimes I see a room like this and think “oh my gosh this is the cutest room ever – I love color!”…

And then ten minutes later I see this room and think “what?  I hate color!  Color is bad.  Always stick to neutrals”…

In conclusion, I am completely indecisive about what I want, but I can tell other people exactly what they want… Good thing I haven’t started designing my dream house yet!

A Master Bedroom Makeover

This bedroom belongs to one of my mom’s good friends in Chattanooga.  I helped give her bedroom a little face lift.  I’ve been meaning to post these pictures for months because it was finished about a year ago… Better late than never!

First I will show you the “AFTER” pictures, then we’ll look at the “BEFORE”.  She wanted the room to be simple with lots of blue.  What do y’all think????  It was basically my first design makeover on my own :)

In case you can’t tell, the “AFTER” pictures were taken on my mom’s fancy camera; the “BEFORE” pictures were taken on my iPhone.

AFTER

Newly painted walls, gold leaf sunburst mirror and custom pillow shams.

We found these small wooden tables and gold men framed artwork in her attic or around her house…

Reupholstered this club chair in some pretty blue velvet.  Ottoman was custom made by an upholsterer here in Atlanta.

We had this pretty day bed reupholstered in the blue checked fabric that matches her pillow shams and bedskirt.  The fabric is Schumacher’s Camden cotton check.  My client hung the gallery wall herself.

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!  I’m excited to have no plans this weekend .  I’m still a little exhausted from last weekend, which explains what a bad blogger I’ve been this week.  I hope you enjoy these pretties and have a great weekend!

Guest Post: Arcadian Home

I’m excited to have Summerfield’s first ever guest blogger from Arcadian Home!  I was so flattered to get an email from them saying that they’re a big fan of my little blog.  It’s always so nice to hear when anyone is a fan :)

If anyone ever has a topic they would like to see on Summerfield, feel free to send me a message!  I love feedback/recommendations.

Hello, everyone! It’s wonderful to be visiting here at Summerfield with a guest post from Arcadian Home blog, where you will find lots of interior design inspiration including fabulous home décor ideas from wall art to mini pendant lighting.

Today we’re going to take a little visual tour of eight of my favorite traditional rooms with a twist of some sort that brings them a fresh and lively vibe. From mixed up styles to quirky decorative elements, these interesting spaces will impress with their creative good looks. Please enjoy!

Thanks for letting me stop by for a visit.

Traditional Twist

This beautiful space feels traditional, but a twist of contemporary and glam takes it beyond that comfortable style. The chunky wood table is a great contemporary piece, while the round tub chairs trimmed in a silvery metallic that’s repeated in the side table add a touch of glam.

Traditional Twist

With traditional bones, treasured table and chairs, along with antique accessories, this dining room goes for much more with the appealing look of Chinoiserie in the fabulous screen and brass side chairs. Tall glass buffet lamps with gold metallic shades are a lovely contrast to the stunning ornate chandelier above the table.

Traditional Twist

In a breathtaking twist, the homeowner/designer asked for a glass greenhouse ceiling inside her new traditional kitchen. She got what she wanted and much more—it’s stunning.

Traditional Twist

This beautifully pale traditional kitchen is bathed in the glow from an ornate crystal chandelier with a contemporary twist—a sheer drum cage covering the upper portion of the light fixture.

Traditional Twist

A lovely mix of cabinetry and contemporary metals infuses this traditional kitchen with style and great functionality. I love the trio of simple pendant lights above the work table/charming dining spot.

Traditional Twist

In a cool twist on traditional farmhouse, this attic bedroom gets a polka dot upholstered bed and contemporary bedding to match.

Traditional Twist

A traditional girl’s bedroom with dark wood four-poster bed shows off a cute twist and one that could be easily implemented. Think paper pom poms, crocheted balls or tiny soft sculptures of just about any sort.

Traditional Twist

Architecturally, this room is totally traditional, but the furnishings are definitely not traditional with simply styled low seating and lots of modern elements. And the biggest twist here is the unexpected gaggle of contemporary lamps emanating from the ornate center ceiling medallion and hanging above the space.

A makeover!

Summerfield has a new look!  What do y’all think?  It was sort of an impulsive decision that I made on Friday.  I’ve had the thought in the back of my head for a while, but I decided to go ahead and make a change – it has been a year after all!  Hopefully there will be more pretty changes for Summerfield in the near future.  Any feedback is appreciated, as always :)  Let me remind you that I am definitely not a computer/blogging expert despite the fact that I’ve had this blog for over a year.  There are so many things I still don’t know how to do.  And I’ve had no help from anyone else… except for one of the computer technicians that works with my dad (he kindly helped me with the picture logo – it took him no time at all to do what I had been trying to figure out for days).

And now for a photo of the day.

A Favorite

This is one of my favorite bedrooms of all time. And I rarely ever like yellow. I think its the touch of green and brown combined with yellow that makes it appealing. Isn’t that fabric the cutest print? It looks like Raoul Textiles (one of my favorite lines, read more here). And those monogrammed pillows? There are no words. And I’m not a huge fan of monogramming (sometimes people take monogramming too far) – but I would take these monogram pillows any day! Also notice the Greek key trim on the bedspread – what’s not to love?

I hope everyone has a fabulous Wednesday!

Captivating Canopies

I think the title of this post explains itself….  Too bad my little bedroom is too small for a canopy!  :(  I guess I’ll just have to add to my list of pretty pieces to put in my future dream home…

One of my favorite canopy beds has to be this one that I found on Pinterest.  I LOVE the way the hardware is mounted on the ceiling!  It’s so… industrial. And unique.

And now a few more canopy beds that I thought were pretty and/or just interesting ;)

Oscar de la Renta… I’m pretty sure that canopy bed is made of rattan or wicker… Interesting.

And last but not least, a canopy bed designed by Phoebe Howard that I’m sure that you’ve seen before.  But I couldn’t resist because it is oh-so-pretty.  And feminine.  And calming… I absolutely love the gathered detail inside the canopy.
