hand painted walls

Hand painted wallpaper is one of the most special ways to decorate a home.  We do not get to use hand painted wallpaper in our client’s homes very often, but when we do it’s very exciting and always turns out absolutely gorgeous.  I love the look, but it is usually a little too formal for my taste… But it doesn’t always have to be formal.  You will see in these pictures that some of these rooms maintain a casual, relaxed look despite the expensive/unique wall treatments.

Absolutely love this hand painted fish wallpaper.  Talk about casual!  Such a unique take on hand painted wallpaper.  It would be so pretty in a lake house.

Antlers at Ainsworth

I was in the Ainsworth Noah showroom yesterday at ADAC and I came across this vignette…

[ I CANNOT get this picture to be vertical… so tilt your head :) ]

If Ainsworth Noah is doing it, then it must be a fabulous… that just confirms that I need some antlers for my new apartment!  Preferably the fake kind.  And I think I like the white ones – maybe the ones from Ballard Design designed by Suzanne Kasler.  They are made of urethane.  The fake/white antlers will reassure visitors that I don’t actually go out and kill deer (or antelope or whatever animals these represent).

I also found these inspirational pictures… Loving that HUGE moose antler over the kitchen cabinets :)

Wood Paneled Walls

I love the look of walls made of horizontal paneled walls.  I’m not sure what the technical name for it is, but something like boarded walls, paneled walls, whatever… Anyways, my parents put several of these paneled walls in their enormous kitchen when they renovated it several years ago.  And now I’m obsessed!  I would hesitate to put a lot of art or furniture in front of such pretty wall.  They look so nice just naked.  It adds just the right amount of rustic charm.

Naked Brick

I love the look of an exposed brick wall (or walls).  Theres something about the industrial feel of brick.  I’ll take it on walls, floors, painted or exposed!

More mirror, mirror

After my post last week on mirrored wall, I discovered these pictures in Architectural Digest’s February 2012 issue. Isn’t that antique mirrored wall gorgeous?

mirror, mirror, all over the wall

via Le Seur Interiors blog

I love a mirrored accent wall.  Especially antique mirror.  Especially square tiles like the one above.

Mirrors make a room look and feel bigger.  Bigger mirror = “bigger” room.  Mirrored backsplashes are great for tiny kitchens because they make it seem a little bigger.  And in most cases, a mirrored backsplash is less expensive than a tile backsplash.

When in doubt, just cover your walls with mirrors!
