Factory Pendants

We all know that I love my Hicks pendant more than anything.  But theres something about those industrial factory pendants that I love too.  I just love the industrial look.  I bet half of the pictures in my “kitchens” pinterest board are of those factory pendants hanging over the island.

Marvelous Maps!

I bought the best “vintage” map from Etsy a couple of months ago (sadly, I think the map that I ordered is no longer available, but there is a smaller/similar one here).  I love it but of course I cannot make a decision about WHERE to hang it.  Naturally, the map is of my favorite city and hometown:  Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Therefore, I want to hang it somewhere prominent.  The problem is that there are only so few prominent wall spaces in my tiny apartment.  So I might have to do some rearranging… I will be sure to let you know when I do find the right place (and post pictures, of course), but for now take a look at these chic maps… Have a great weekend!

Tulip Table

If I had a dining room, I would have a dining room table.  If I had all the money in the world, I would have a Saarinen table.  That is two big IFs.  Eero Saarinen was a famous furniture designer for Knoll, where the table became available in 1956.  And he was obviously a genius because these tables are recognized and wanted by almost everyone today.  You can literally put one in the most traditional space or the most contemporary space and it will look fantastic.

Unfortunately, the dining table costs about $7,000 (and that’s just for the 78″ oval), which is why I need all the money in the world to not feel guilty about buying one (and I can’t afford it).  And let’s face it, if I have all the money in the world, I would probably have a pretty big dining room, so I’m going to need the 96″ oval :)

[Luckily, IKEA makes a small knock off of the tulip table for $199!]

Golden Globes and Cuteness Alert!!!

Don’t worry, I’m not going to be one of those bloggers who gives fashion advice — I’m not even 100% confident with my own wardrobe so don’t feel capable of telling others what to wear / what not to wear…  However, I must say that Jessica Alba’s dress was sooo pretty last night at the Golden Globes.  And I am extremely accepting of Jennifer Lawrence’s dress (even though I gasped when I first saw the top portion!).

This picture disguises the irregularity of the top portion of the dress… but I’m sure if you google it you’ll see what I mean :)

While I was in Birmingham this weekend for a friend’s wedding I got to visit my adorable godson/cousin, James.  I couldn’t help myself — I had to share some pictures of his cuteness with you.  He’s such a beautiful baby!  Isn’t he the cutest? [WHY are these pictures to tiny???? Someone please tell me!]

Love for Lonny again

Happy Friday!  I’m so glad I made it through the first full week back at work after eleven days straight of relaxation/holidays.  The latest double issue of Lonny magazine came out yesterday.  And they nailed it in so many ways, as usual.  Check out the January/February 2013 issue now if you haven’t already.  Here’s some highlights:

Meg Braff does Green

One of my all time favorite houses is featured in House Beautiful’s May 2012 “All About Green” issue (another green favorite – shocking!).  The New York home is decorated by Meg Braff.  So you can see why it is one of my favorites.  I could go on forever about it but here are some pictures:

Literally love every inch of the bedroom above.  Especially the chest, chair, lamps, everything…

If I didn’t want a white kitchen, I’d want a green kitchen, of course.  And notice the brass hardware.  It wouldn’t be as pretty without the adorable chandelier and oriental rugs either.  But the green is what makes it, obviously :)

Green grasscloth? Yes, please!

Those are the same pillow shams I have on my bed – except mine are green, of course!

The dining room is kind of dark but I like it!  Walls are upholstered in green velvet.

Favorite thing about the picture above?  The mustard leather chair.  It’s not every day you see a mustard yellow leather wing chair ;)

Cabin Weekend and Fireplaces

summerfield

This weekend I hosted a lot of friends at my parents cabin on Monteagle Mountain.  It was the prefect weather for a cabin weekend:  freezing cold.  So about 18 of my friends and several dogs spent a lot of time in front of a bonfire outside or in front of the fireplace inside.  I don’t know how to build a fire but if I ever do have a working fireplace you can bet that it will be a REAL one. And I will learn how to build a fire in it…

After being freezing last weekend, I’m going to Birmingham for a wedding this weekend where it is expected to reach 72 degrees.  In January.  Crazy.

[sorry for the blurry pictures!  And thank you to Michelle and Jennifer for letting me steal your pictures :)]

Ready for 2013

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday! In 2013 I plan on working harder and being nice to people. I always try to work hard and be nice, but I saw this picture on Pinterest and thought it would be a great New Years resolution.

I will also try to be a better blogger :)
