Cornice Boards

After looking at all the chicness that is in The Big Book of Chic, I decided cornice boards are the most fabulous way to dress a window.  It took me a little longer than I expected to look at every single page of the book – but that’s why Miles named it The BIG Book of Chic instead of The Little Book of Chic.

I think a cornice board is a little too formal for my apartment right now, but maybe one day one of my many houses will feature some over the top cornice boards ;)

Miles Redd knows how to design fabulous cornice boards.  And I found evidence that other designers do too.  I can’t think of a more fabulous way to dress a window, can you?

By the way, the pictures now link the their sources.  I’m so high tech :)

Absolutely love all the green!!!

Some cornices don’t serve a purpose – they’re like jewelry for a window :)

So sweet for a little girls room

Love the contrast of the printed fabric and the solid Ivory fabric and tape trim…

I know you’ve probably seen this picture a thousand times before, but it needed to be in my “Cornice Boards” post [Elizabeth Dinkel via Veranda]

Simple, white, shaped cornice boards. You almost don’t even notice them. The first thing I noticed was that cool light fixture. And the black & white abstract art over the mantle.

Sneak Peek: Thanksgiving 2012 at Summerfield

I took the time / remembered to take pictures of my Thanksgiving!  Yay me!  As always, the house looked absolutely gorgeous with silver goblets, tasteful flower arrangements, white linens and my family.  My aunts (and mother) and their help work hard each year to make Thanksgiving at Summerfield so special for my entire family EVERY year.  There were thirty four of us this year, which is a low number compared to years past.  In the past, we usually have close to fifty people for Thanksgiving lunch.  Each year I appreciate this house and this family more and more.  Thankful is an understatement! :)

These are some pictures from my iphone (and a few other people’s iphones), but I also took some pictures on my mom’s super nice camera that I will post as soon as I figure out how to upload the pictures to a computer, etc.  (which could be years from now, but hopefully not).

If you follow me on instagram (@wheelerlewis1) you may have already seen a few of these.

That is me holding my beautiful godson, James, who I just met for the first time!

I had to take a picture of the spanish moss.

James loves his godmother already :)

p.s. Roll Tide!!!!

Tortoise Shell

I absolutely love a tortoise shell finish… on just about anything! Sunglasses, picture frames, furniture, you name it. It’s so classic. It will never go out of style or get old. The first thing I think of when I think of a tortoise shell finish is probably these:

Ray-Ban’s Wayfarar in Tortoise… BUT a tortoise shell finish looks fabulous on just about anything. Especially furniture and home accessories.

That table! Interior design by Miles Redd.

How gorgeous is this tortoise shell mirror? I wish I knew where it was from :(

If only I could afford Jimmy Choo’s Tortoise wedges (available at Nordstrom)… sigh.

Would love to have one of these gorgeous decorative boxes from Karen Robertson for my coffee table… whenever I get a coffee table ;)

Karen Robertson has other beautiful tortoise shell objects too!

And then she also has actual turtle shells! I’d love to hang a grouping on a wall somewhere in my apartment.

There’s even a green one!!! I’d love to hang this guy on the wall.

I might settle for this tortoise shell iphone case from JCrew until I can afford the real thing.

I’m obsessed with most furniture from Oly Studio, but I’m especially obsessed with their dark shell finish… Like on the Jeremy side table.

Tory Burch is also a big fan of tortoise shell. There are all kinds of tortoise shell jewelry, handbags, belts, on the website. [shown: Octagon Resin Necklace]

Jackie O would love these Warby Parker sunglasses.

I even found tortoise shell napkins on Pinterest! Available from Horchow.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m headed to Selma, Alabama to spend Thanksgiving in the beautiful Summerfield house with my entire extended family.  I will try to take some pics while I’m there.  Until then, here are some pictures to get us in the Thanksgiving mood…

Fur

Lately all this cold weather has me wishing I had a big fur blanket to cuddle up in.   Atlanta weather has been so sporadic in the last couple of weeks.  One day it will be 73 degrees and then for three days straight the high temperature is like 50.  I can’t decide whether to turn the heat on or not.  I’d love to add a little fur to my apartment somehow… Faux fur, of course :)

Ikea has some great faux fur area rugs like this Tejn rug.  It would be so nice to have one right next to the bed.  My feet would love it first thing in the morning.

If faux blankets/pillows/rugs are too much for your home, perhaps you would like to add a little faux fur to your wardrobe like Kate Moss:

I’ve always wanted to have one of these furry hats but honestly don’t think I would ever wear it.  Think what your hair would look like when you took it off!  [JCrew Toscana Shearling Trapper Hat]

LOVE the furry print on this scarf… Sorry it’s probably not available any more… From One Kings Lane.

Anthrop0logie’s Divna Fur Jacket

Or I looove their Collared Peplum coat in Yellow.  But let’s be honest, you couldn’t wear a bright coat like this too often or you would be “the girl with the yellow fur collared coat”.

I have ALWAYS wanted some furry moccasin slippers like these Dakotas from Ugg Australia.  [hint hint, Santa Claus]

That’s all the fur I have for you today!

Bars Carts and Booze

We’re getting closer to the holiday season so I thought now would be a good time for a little bar inspiration for those holiday parties you might be hosting.  In my opinion, the bar is one of the most important aspects of a party – maybe even THE most important.  I’m just being honest.  One of the first things most people do when they walk in the door is find the bar and drink a cocktail. At least that is the case for all of the parties that I attend :)  So here are a couple of yummy holiday cocktails I found on pinterest.  And then some fun pictures.

First up:  Peppermint Eggnog Punch.  How delicious does this look?  Ice cream is by far one of my favorite foods (if not my absolute favorite). I could eat ice cream any time of year – even in the freezing cold.  And I love anything mint flavored.  Combine those two things and I’m happy… and drunk ;)

[via Better Homes & Gardens]

Next we have the Dirty Girl Scout.  Once again, I have a weakness for anything mint flavored. I love kahlua (in moderation, of course).  [source]

Miles’ Book Signing!

Tonight (Thursday night) I am going to Miles Redd’s Big Book of Chic book signing at Travadavi. I cannot wait to get my hands on that book. I’m supposed to go to dinner with friends after the book signing – I hope I make it because it’s going to be hard not to dive into that book for hours :)))

If you haven’t already ordered a copy, everyone should!

p.s. I love this picture of him :) [found on Mrs. Blandings]

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Beautiful Brass

source

Brass finishes are a huge trend right now and I’m so glad.  Most of the time I absolutely prefer a brass finish over any finish on hardware, lighting, plumbing and furniture.  I especially love an antique brass finish.  However, I would be a little hesitant to use brass hardware and plumbing in my own home (as if I have a choice in my apartment!).  I think I’m scared that it’s too trendy and I’ll get sick of it after a while.  But if you think about it, replacing the knobs and pulls in a kitchen or bathroom is really not that big of a deal.  My kitchen and bathroom cabinets don’t even have hardware, otherwise I might consider ordering some of these gorgeous brass pulls from Restoration Hardware:

Gilmore Pull

Utility Latch

Or this pretty antique brass window hardware

And now some pictures that might inspire you to add some antique Brass to your life…

Vines

This post is probably completely out of season. But like I’ve said a thousand times: I do not have a green thumb. So it really doesn’t matter what I say about growing plants, flowers, or even vines.  My mom has two vines in her back yard that are beginning to grow up the back of the house and they look great!  My great aunt gave them to her (she has a major green thumb).  I love the way a house looks with a vine growing up the exterior.  Maybe my mom will send me some pictures of her vines to share on the blog :)
