Guess what was delivered to me yesterday…

Would you believe I finally ordered my beloved Hicks pendant for myself???

I CANNOT wait to hang it in my kitchen. I’ll be sure to post a pic :)

Black and White Abstract

I’ve been working on some artwork for my apartment lately.  I’ve been drawn to black and white abstract pieces for a long time.  I took several art classes in high school and in college.  Instead of buying something or finding a poster, I figured why not put my skills to the test?   How hard can it be?  We’ll see…

Seagrass, Sisal

…and Jute!  I love natural fiber rugs.  I promise they work in both formal and informal interiors.  And here is proof:

I can’t even tell you how many clients of ours have seagrass/sisal runners on their stairs… Love that look.  Seagrass is especially nice on the stairs if you have small children. [image via Benjamin Dhong]

Do you have a massive living room and don’t want to pay 9485967584 dollars for a huge oriental rug?  Go with seagrass!  [Orlando Diaz-Azcuy via House Beautiful]

Designers like Phoebe Howard and Suzanne Kasler are big fans of natural fiber rugs.

One of my favorite ways to use a seagrass rug: layering.  If you have a nice/oriental/antique rug but it’s too small for a space – layer it over a larger seagrass/sisal rug.  Problem solved.

One of my favorite natural fiber rugs, which I just discovered the other day, is Serena & Lily’s Chevron Jute/Hemp rug

Most Pinned

Sooo I was looking through my pinterest boards last night (a little bored), trying to find inspiration for future blog posts, and I realized that one particular pin was repinned wayyyy more than any other pin. It really surprised me how much attention this one pin received… There are so many other pins I like better. But people are weird…. Oh well. Funny enough, this is from my “bathroom” board. Don’t get me wrong, I love everything about it and I know it’s gorgeous, but I wonder “why this one?”!? :)

Nifty Nailheads

Nailheads are like jewelry for furniture.  They come in all different shapes, sizes, and finishes…

A few furniture pieces that utilize nailheads…

Arteriors‘ Tennyson bench

The Marcello barstool from Ballard Design is one of Mallory Mathison Inc.‘s favorite barstools.  The upholstered arms make it feel like a comfortable club chair.  And those large nailheads on the side of the arms add the perfect finishing touch. And it’s on sale right now!

Bungalow 5’s Marco side table would look great in the right setting.  Like a kid’s room or playroom.  Also available in black.

If you reallyyy love nailheads, you’ll probably like Bernhardt’s Cabrillo Nailhead Chest… A little too funky for me though.

I would like Noir’s Bacalle ottoman a lot more if it wasn’t so dark.

Nailheads should be essential on a simple, solid headboard.  Wisteria doubled the bling with two rows of nailheads on their Queen Anne headboard.

And now for some pinterest pictures that display good use of nailheads…

I absolutely love the Greek Key design of the nailheads on this banquette in Traditional Home.

[Nathan Schroder] LOVE the upholstered drawer fronts outlined with nailheads on these nightstands.  Although I’m a little distracted by that fabulous green lamp!

Notice the alternating large and small nailheads on this leather stool.  And they are spaced out.  The possibilities are endless.  Gina Berschneider red leather ottoman via One Kings Lane.

Takes my breath away

There are some pictures of interiors that I come across that literally take my breath away.  I’m weird, I know.  After my breath is taken from me, sometimes I say out loud “Oh mah gah”… and then I look at it for several minutes without looking away.

Anwayyyy, now that you officially think I’m a weirdo…

I’ve shared a lot of these pictures in previous posts but I think these particular pictures deserve posts of their own.  Here is one of those pictures of a vignette designed by Katie Ridder.  The artwork alone takes my breath away.  A lot of you have probably seen this picture on pinterest or other blogs, but I just wanted to make sure everyone knew how much I love it!  :)

Lacquered Look

I love the look of lacquered walls.  Miles Redd is especially fond of the lacquered look.  Lacquering can be very expensive.  High gloss paint can sometimes be just as effective.

Lacquered walls might be a little too glam for my taste, but I love it in other people’s homes!  Take a look…

Chic Chevron

Chevron patterns have been catching my eye lately… In all different forms.  I’m not sure what I’m going to do about it.  I would love a chevron runner in the hallway of my apartment.
